A Chinese wireless device manufacturer has announced three tracking devices that use both GPS and GSM cellular triangulation location services. Xexun's TK102 (pictured), TK103, and TK201 (“Mini”) GPS Tracker devices run embedded Linux and claim to offer up to five-meter location accuracy, says Xexun.

GPS trackers such as the Xexun models can be slipped into a child's backpack, attached to cargo for tracking purposes, or, of course, hidden in the bad guy's car pursuant to the big car chase and bust. The Xexun GPS Trackers are quite similar in specifications, down to their identical SiRF starIII chipsets and identical applications, but they are slightly different in design and size, and the TK201 Mini offers a longer battery life (72 hours compared to 48 hours for the other two models).

Common applications include locating and monitoring remote targets via GPS, SMS, or GPRS location methods, says Xexun. Specific features are said to include:

• Receive target's latitude and longitude by SMS or GPRS
• Check position with Google Earth
• Auto-report position
• Send last location if target enters “blind” area
• Monitoring and SOS feature
• Send “Geofence” alert to user restricted area is breached
• Send movement alert when target begins to move
• Send overspeed alert if target exceeds restricted speed
• Send low-battery alert
• Add or change username and password

Specifications listed for the Xexun GPS Trackers include:

• Battery — 3.7V DC Li-Ion battery, 700mA; about 48 hours operation per charge except for TK201 (72 hours)
