IBM has announced availability of a beta version of its DB2 Everyplace Database — a relational database management system with a tiny footprint of less than 150KB. DB2 Everyplace implements a subset of the SQL 99 standard, DB2 Call Level Interface (CLI), Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), and Java Database Connectivity (JDBC). The Linux beta version is currently available for download.

IBM's description of DB2 Everyplace . . .

DB2 Everyplace brings the power of DB2 to mobile devices and is the first enterprise mobile computing offering that provides development, deployment, and administration in one package. Backed by the powerful synchronization capabilities of the DB2 Everyplace Sync Server, it allows mobile and enterprise employees to view and update data simultaneously.

As a relational database management system using a subset of the SQL 99 standard, DB2 Everyplace leverages existing skills in your enterprise. This enables your business to quickly deploy mobile applications synchronized with your enterprise data sources. In addition, the DB2 Everyplace Personal Application Builder for Palm OS devices delivers a graphical rapid application development tool to expedite delivery of your mobile database applications to market.
