Industrial embedded Linux distribution adopts Eclipse

Koan Software has revised its low-cost commercial Linux distribution for embedded and industrial applications. The only change in Version 3.0 of KaeilOS (formerly Klinux, formerly K-Linux) appears to be the addition of Eclipse 3.2-based development and debugging tools.

Koan founder Marco Cavallini says that starting with version 3.0, KaeilOS comes standard with Eclipse 3.2 tools. In the future, the company will work to progressively integrate all of the software components in KaeilOS with Eclipse, Cavallini says.

Cavallini said, “In our vision, Eclipse will be an important milestone for KaeilOS, as wxWidgets has been for our wxEmbedded architecture in the past. We are considering skilled and new and un-experienced Linux users, who need an easy way to create embedded Linux systems.”

Previously, Koan opted to offer Anjuta, another open source IDE (integrated development tools), in part due to Anjuta's “complete support” for wxWidgets (formerly wxWindows). Koan added support for the WxWidgets C++ GUI framework in 2004, and now supports WxEmbedded.

Availability

KaeilOS 3.0 is available now, for x86, ARM, and PowerPC, priced at 300 Euros. WxEmbedded and professional support are available separately.

Additionally, Koan offers KaeilOS porting services to a variety of architectures.
