Initial release of GNU telephony server “bayonne”

May 27, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Bayonne is the telephony server of the GNU project. The first cvs milestone for Bayonne has been made available for immediate download. Bayonne, which is based on the ACS project, offers a multi-line interactive voice response telephony server which may be scripted and directly extended thru modular plugins.

This initial release of Bayonne has been made available from ftp://www.voxilla.org/pub/bayonne. This release represents an architecturally complete and testable server which features support for one or more QuickNet LineJack telephony cards using GNU/Linux. I will shortly write plugin drivers for the Voicetronix VPB 4 port analog DSP card and for the Pika MonteCarlo API. Bayonne will also initially be ported to FreeBSD, and to other platforms soon afterward. Other telephony interface plugins will be created as time allows. If you are interested in seeing your favorite telephony card supported, feel free to join the Bayonne developers list hosted on sourceforge, available from “mailto:[email protected]”.

Bayonne can be integrated with other GNU packages to form a complete telephony platform. Bayonne offers “TGI” gateway services to “telephony enable” scripting languages such as perl and may be used to build v-commerce solutions as well as conventional voice response and messaging services.

Bayonne is built from the ground up as a C++ server, and makes extensive use of loadable plugin modules. Additional plug-ins may be created and used to directly extend the server. Bayonne is also fully threaded, and uses a state-event driven scripting engine (ccscript) at it's core. Bayonne is a unique state-of-the-art platform for developing telecommunication services.

Bayonne cvs is hosted on subversions as well as on sourceforge. Anonymous cvs access is available from subversions.gnu.org under the module name “bayonne”.
