Black Duck and VA Software have jointly launched a distributed development environment with integrated software license management capabilities. SourceForge Enterprise Edition combines VA Software's SourceForge offering with Black Duck's ProtexIP software compliance management product. It targets globally distributed development teams wishing to reuse open source software more effectively.

Claimed benefits for the integrated SourceForge/ProtexIP product include:

• Improved visibility and control — Compliance analysis can be scheduled or performed as needed, and results can be viewed within the SourceForge development environment.
• Facilitated code reuse — The ProtexIP component finds open source software snippets and identifies potential licensing conflicts and constraints, helping ensure appropriate reuse of open source code.
• Mitigated risks and improved regulatory compliance — SourceForge's program managment and change management capabilities, combined with software compliance management, can mitigate risks associated with software licensing, and provide process controls and auditability needed to support quality frameworks such as CMM, ISO, and/or Sarbanes-Oxley.
