Denver, CO — (press release excerpt) — Jabber.com and Nuance have announced a collaboration which will provide advanced voice instant messaging and presence solutions to their respective customers and partners for the enterprise and service provider markets. Nuance will provide an interface to Jabber's Instant Messaging (IM) technology from its voice interface software, allowing Nuance customers and… partners to develop voice-enabled IM applications, and to IM-enable their existing voice applications. Jabber will use the Nuance 7.0 speech recognition engine to extend its current product offerings and allow its customers to easily add voice to their IM implementations.

Voice IM will allow access to IM from any phone in the world, not just wireless data devices. Telephone users will be able to send text messages, voice messages, or communicate through VoIP to their IM “buddies” at their desktops. Incoming text messages will be converted to voice using Nuance Vocalizer text-to-speech software. Voice applications will use presence information from IM to make communications much more efficient, and to leverage IM's community. The integration also promises an entire new generation of integrated voice services and applications leveraging both the Nuance voice and Jabber real time messaging and presence platform capabilities.
