Japan seeks to standardize device software and protocols

The Asahi Shimbun reports that the Japanese government and consumer device manufacturers are collaborating to develop standards for software and protocols used in tomorrow's Internet-savvy smart appliances. According to the article, a study group operating under the auspices of Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (MITI) has recently completed its initial report on strategies, which suggests 28… areas for potential standardization. The article makes note of the high level of interest among both the Japanese government and manufacturers in using embedded Linux and TRON as device software platforms.
