Linux being embedded into cash registers in China

Los Angeles, CA — (press release excerpt) — Bluepoint Linux Software Corp. today announced an agreement with Shenzhen Sed Logic Business Equipment Co. Ltd., a large POS (point-of-sale) hardware supplier in China, whereby the two parties will jointly develop an Embedded Linux based cash register for a government tax… control project.

Bluepoint will provide Sed with Bluepoint Embedded Development Kits, provide Bluepoint Embedded System development training courses to Sed engineers, and provide technical support, upgrades, and consulting services. According to Bluepoint, Sed be paying license fees to Bluepoint for each embedded cash register.

Shenzhen Sed Logic Business Equipment Co. Ltd. is a joint venture between Shenzhen Sed Industry Co. Ltd. and a U.S. company, Logic Controls Inc.. Sed produces more than 20,000 POS systems per year, eighty percent of which are exported.
