Linux tops in embedded, but not without challenges

Linux is the star of embedded, according to an introductory feature at Design News. Once viewed skeptically by industry pragmatists, embedded Linux has been ported to every embedded processor and is considered for every embedded project. However, embedded Linux adopters may face unanticipated challenges, according to the Design News article.

Embedded Linux may cost more than expected to develop and maintain, the Design News story suggests, citing market research findings from Dataquest's principal analyst, Daya Nadamuni. Additionally, it may lack adequate real-time determinism for some projects.
