Tactical Software has ported its collection of serial and modem server utilities to Linux. The TTYredirector utilities enable Linux applications designed to work with locally attached serial devices to be used remotely, in conjunction with serial device servers. The utilities target industrial control and automation.

The TTYredirector utility has long been available for Windows, but now supports Linux hosts too, Tactical says. The collection includes:

• trconfig — configures TTYredirector devices with settings including the IP address (or hostname) of a device server and the TCP port number for a device on that server
• trquery — shows TTYredirector device settings
• trtrace — shows TTYredirector activity in real-time for diagnostic purposes
• ttyredirectord — a daemon that converts the serial data stream of the application to a TCP/IP connection to the device server

Tactical says its TTYredirector utilities are compatible with a wide range of device servers, and other devices with TCP/IP interfaces.
