Compact industrial computer runs Linux

The Moxa Group is shipping a series of compact, fanless, industrially-oriented embedded computers available with Linux pre-installed. The “network-centric” UC-7400-CE series computers are based on Intel XScale processors and feature eight serial ports along with networking and digital I/O.

Moxa says the UC-7400 series computers are based on an Intel IXP-422 processor clocked at 266 MHz, along with 128 MB of DRAM and 32 MB of flash memory. The devices are packaged in a robust, fanless enclosure suitable for DIN-rail or wall mounting, and optionally include a built-in 128 x 64 pixel LCD screen and associated keypad for operator interface.

Moxa lists the following key features and specifications for the UC-7400-LE series:

  • Processor — Intel IXP-422 at 266 MHz
  • Memory — 128 MB of DRAM, 32 MB flash
  • Display — 128 x 64 pixel LCD (UC-7410)

    • 2 10/100 Ethernet
    • 8 serial — RS-232/422/485, 50 bps to 921.6 Kbps, RJ45 connectors
    • USB:
      • 1 USB 1.1 client
      • 2 USB 2.0 host (UC-7420)
    • 8 each digital input and output, 3.3 V TTL
  • Expansion — PCMCIA and Cardbus slots
  • Wireless — supported through PCMCIA slot
  • Power — 12 to 48 VDC, 10 W
  • Dimensions — 7.75 x 4.92 x 1.73 inches (197 x 125 x 44 mm)
  • Software:
    • Embedded operating system — MontaVista Linux 2.4.18 kernel pre-loaded in flash
    • Protocol stacks — TCP, UDP, IPv4, SNMP, ICMP, IGMP, ARP, HTTP, CHAP, PAP, SSL, DHCP, SNTP, SMTP, Telnet, FTP, PPP
