Glomation announced an ARM9-powered single-board computer (SBC) that runs Linux and costs just $69 in volume. The GESBC-9260 (pictured) measures 3.75 x 3.5 inches, sports Atmel's 200MHz AT91SAM9260, and targets “highly connected image processing applications” such as Ethernet-based IP cameras, and bar code readers, says Glomation.

A follow-on to Glomation's similar, Cirrus Logic EP-9302-based SBC, the GESBC-9302, the new GESBC-9260 employs Atmel's AT91SAM9260. This highly integrated SoC (system-on-chip) uses a ARM ARM926EJ-S core, and offers 8KB each of instruction and data cache, plus an external bus interface with controllers for SDRAM, NAND Flash, and Compact Flash.

Glomation's little SBC is offered with either 64MB or 128MB of 100MHz DRAM, plus from 128MB to 1GB of flash storage, all soldered on. Although the company did not specify, photographs suggest that the device offers real-world connectors for its two USB host ports and single USB device port, plus a nine-pin connector for one of its three serial ports.

The rest of the board's interfaces, available via pin headers, include two UARTs, with support for ISO7816-compatible smart cards, 10/100 Ethernet, SD/MMC, I2C, SPI, and an image sensor interface. The GESBC-9260 also offers 20 individually configurable digital I/Os, plus an integrated four-channel, 10-bit A/D converter, says Glomation.

The SBC includes an on-chip real time clock with battery backup, plus on-chip watchdog timer. Power consumption is cited at just 0.4 Amps, requiring a 5V supply.
