LynuxWorks adds RTLinux to lineup

Nov 12, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

LynuxWorks announced today that they have become a licensee of FSMLabs' RTLinux real-time add-on for Linux. RTLinux will be offered as part of the company's BlueCat Linux product family, and will be called “BlueCat RT”. RTLinux adds what is known as “hard real-time” to Linux-based systems through a hybrid approach in which a small real-time kernel, which guarantees fast and bounded response to real-time events, shares system resources with a general purpose operating system such as Linux.

Recently, Red Hat also added RTLinux as an option to their Embedded Linux product portfolio, and Lineo announced the licensing of FSMLabs' dual-kernel patent in support of their implementation of the RTAI real-time Linux extension, which is considered a spinoff of RTLinux.

With the addition of BlueCat RT, LynuxWorks now offers a broad spectrum of embedded and real-time operating system alternatives which include BlueCat Linux, BlueCat RT, and LynxOS, a proprietary Linux-like real-time operating system.
