Mobile browser revs rendering technology
Feb 6, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsAccess announced the addition of a new, patent-pending rendering technology to its mobile web browser, resulting in “dramatically faster” speed of web page presentation on mobile devices. Access claims that with “Rapid-Render,” the Access NetFront web browser's download speeds are up to six times faster than previous versions of NetFront.
Access says Rapid-Render works by displaying Web page content in progressive stages. First, text and hyperlinks are presented so the user can immediately read relevant information or navigate the page. Next, graphics, tables, and other screen elements are added. Finally, the page is formatted using Access's Smart-Fit Rendering technology.
Access claims its NetFront browser is the most widely deployed and actively used embedded web browser in the world. NetFront 3.1 runs on devices using Palm, Symbian, Linux, and Windows Mobile embedded OSes. In addition to the new Rapid-Render technology, NetFront also contains Access's “Smart-Fit Rendering” technology, which intelligently renders web pages to fit the narrow screen widths of mobile devices while eliminating the need for horizontal scrolling.
