Mono project issues major bug fix release
Feb 3, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsThe Mono project has released Mono 0.3.0, a bug fix release that closed some 1,397 bugs. Mono is an open source implementation of Microsoft's .NET Framework for Linux, Unix, and Windows systems.
According to the Mono Project Website, “This is mostly a fine tuning release: bug fixing and performance improvements are the major benefits, but new classes and new features are also included.”
New features include:
- Performance improvements to class libraries
- Low-level JIT optimizations
- Reduced memory requirements
- Most tests now work on MacOS and LinuxPPC
- C# compiler handles complex conditional expressions better
- Tests added and grammar updated in VB compiler and JScript
- Runtime support for unmanaged resources
- FileSystemWatcher for Mono added
- Security and cryptography updates
- Switched XSLT engine from
libxslt
to managed engine - Tests, and custom error pages added to ASP.NET Web forms
- Additional open source ASP.NET applications ported to Unix/Mono, including PetShop, FlexiWiki, and DasBlog
- GraphicsPath, Matrix, Brush, and Pen added to System.Drawing
- Improved support for SoapFormatter
- Postgres connection pooling initial support
- New Assembly linker
- “Some momentum” on the Gtk# backend for Windows.Forms
The new release includes four components:
- Runtime
- Software Development Kit
- Documentation browser
- ASP.NET server with its Apache module
