Jan 14, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSUNNYVALE, Calif. — (company press release) — MontaVista Software Inc., developer of the Hard Hat Linux operating system for embedded computers, today announced that as part of its investment in support and services infrastructure the company has hired Kristin Anderson as director of support. Anderson brings with her 16 years of experience at Hewlett-Packard Co. in support and services management, and her hiring completes the MontaVista technical management team.
“Bringing Kristin on board demonstrates MontaVista's strong commitment to a growing list of Hard Hat Linux customers,” comments MontaVista Software President and CEO Jim Ready, a pioneer in real-time/embedded operating
systems. “Kristin joins a technical team with open source, UNIX/POSIX computing and embedded systems know-how unparalleled in the industry.” Kevin Morgan, MontaVista vice president of engineering, adds, “The open source business model demands a 100 percent commitment to quality support and services, and Kristin is the right person to help MontaVista deliver on that commitment.”
Anderson's background in customer management solutions for networking and computer technology, especially in supporting real-time computing, extends MontaVista's technical expertise and subscriber care capacity. “Helping MontaVista customers leverage Linux for embedded applications is an exciting challenge,” says Anderson. “Successful deployment of Linux-based Internet
appliances and other pervasive computing products depends on the mix of know-how and solid, professional support that MontaVista can provide.”
In her 16-year tenure at HP, Anderson managed the technical support, quality, information engineering and software integration of the HP 1000 Real-Time Computer. Her most recent role was strategic program manager overseeing the design, development and deployment of HP's customer management solution for delivering services and support for HP's computer and networking lines. At
MontaVista, Anderson will lead the support and services team that implements the company's array of subscription services, including telephone, e-mail and on-line technical support; Hard Hat Linux porting and customization; and embedded and real-time Linux professional services.
MontaVista, which debuted its Hard Hat Linux distribution earlier this year, partners with Force Computers Inc., Motorola Computer Group, Ziatech Corp. and WinSystems Inc. Hard Hat runs on those companies' CompactPCI and
single-board computer (SBC) platforms, popular choices for use in telecommunications and Internet appliance applications.
