San Francisco; Intel Developer Forum — (press release excerpt) — MontaVista Software Inc. today announced that its flagship product, MontaVista Linux 2.1, will support the new Intel IXP2400, IXP2800, and IXP425 Network Processors. These three new Intel network processors are designed to meet requirements within the core infrastructure, the network edge, and in customer premises equipment (CPE). The new network processors are optimized in terms of performance and cost-effectiveness for each of these respective segments. Typical applications are expected to include high performance network systems, including switches and routers.

MontaVista is a member the Intel Internet Exchange Architecture (Intel IXA) Developer Network. Using Intel IXA building blocks, developers can flexibly customize and integrate value-add features into networking and communications solutions. MontaVista will optimize MontaVista Linux 2.1 and associated development tools to take advantage of the specific architectural features of Intel's Network Processors. MontaVista Linux 2.1 on these Intel processors will help embedded application developers lower their deployment costs and accelerate time-to-market for next generation telecommunications equipment.

The support for Intel's new network processors will be made available to subscribers of MontaVista Linux 2.1 Professional Edition shortly after Intel has released these network processors.
