MontaVista Software adds regional design centers

Sunnyvale, CA — (press release) — MontaVista Software Inc., developer of the Hard Hat Linux operating system for embedded applications today announced opening of design centers in Arizona and New Hampshire. The two design centers bring together focused teams of engineers to enhance and expand the MontaVista Hard Hat Linux offering. Joining existing Sunnyvale and Dallas offices, MontaVista now boasts a nationwide presence as the leading provider of Linux for embedded system solutions.

The New Hampshire design center will be led by Dan Malek, the well-known Linux and open source figure, with extensive contributions to Linux for PowerPC architecture and networking interfaces. Heading up the Arizona design center team is Ken Keller, a highly respected designer and engineering manager who comes to MontaVista with over 24 years of experience in the real-time / embedded industry.

“With Dan Malek and Ken Keller, MontaVista once again adds 'best in class' professional engineering talent to our staff,” says Kevin Morgan, vice president of engineering. “Both teams will have responsibilities spanning microprocessor architectures, partner and customer board support programs, with aggressive plans for continued enhancement and refinement of Linux capabilities, including high performance I/O and networking.”

About Dan Malek

Dan Malek brings more than 20 years of embedded real-time technology and management experience to MontaVista. He has worked on innovative projects such as Arpanet, Space Shuttle telemetry communication, telecommunications, automotive control systems and audio/video processing. Dan began using Linux in 1996. His first major contribution to the movement was porting of PowerPC Linux to the Motorola embedded microprocessors. Dan has since enabled numerous embedded products with Linux, and will continue to apply his skills and experience to MontaVista and the open source community at large.

About Ken Keller

Ken Keller spent the last 14 years with Motorola Computer Group (MCG) and was most recently manager and chief architect of MCG's Cross Industry Business Unit. He was responsible for software, board and system architecture for PowerPC and Intel-based VME, CompactPCI and motherboard product lines. Ken managed and developed board support packages (BSPs) for VxWorks, pSOSystem and Linux. Previously, Ken gained industry applications experience in areas of process control, robotics and automated test equipment.
