Multi-vendor Webcast discusses hardware standards for FMC

Mar 7, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Four embedded hardware vendors will jointly present a live Webcast on standards for fixed-mobile convergence (FMC). Entitled “Meeting carrier requirements with AdvancedTCA and AdvancedMCs,” the online event will feature representatives of Radisys, Embedded Planet, Diversified, and Kontron — all of whom offer carrier hardware products that run embedded Linux.

The Webinar will be moderated by Joe Pavlat, who presides over PICMG (PCI Industrial Manufacturers Group), the industry group that maintains AdvancedTCA and other modular standards aimed in part at standardizing commodity hardware for telecommunications applications. Participants will include:

  • Matt Hoover, of Embedded Planet
  • Chris Grujon, of Radisys
  • Joe Mcdevitt, of Diversified
  • Sven Freudenfeld, of Kontron

The Webinar participants say that AdvancedTCA, AdvancedMCs (Advanced Mezzanine Cards), and other modular standards can reduce design and manufacturing costs, while providing a marketing advantage. However, such standards amount to little more than marketing hype without careful control, concise directives, verified compliance, and ensured interoperability, the group says.

The Webinar is set for March 28, at 2:00 p.m. EST. Registration details can be found here.
