N810 Android, anyone?
Apr 9, 2008 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 9 viewsA website has published instructions on how to install Google's Android Java stack on real hardware with ARM926 and later cores, running Linux 2.6.23 and later kernels. The instructions can be used to install Android on Nokia's Linux-based N810 web tablet, the article suggests.
The eLinux.org article offers instructions for devices with:
- ARM926 and newer cores — ARM v4-based ARM920 cores won't work, apparently
- A 2.6.23 or newer kernel supporting a framebuffer
- 64MB of storage (or ideally, an NFS-mounted filesystem)
- 64MB of RAM or more
- A serial console
- A cross-development toolchain supporting ARM EABI
Android was previously ported to several Sharp Zaurus models, as well as to Freescale's Armadillo-500 development board, based on the ARM11 architecture. Work porting the stack to ARM's newest Cortex micro-architecture appears to be ongoing.
