National Instruments adds motion control Linux driver support

Mar 10, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Virtual instrumentation specialist National Instruments has developed commercial Linux drivers for its motion controllers, and has added Linux support to its Motion Hardware Driver Development Kit for those wishing to develop their own drivers.

The new Driver Development Kit includes a manual with low-level details and directions for communication with NI 733x, 734x, and 735x motion controllers, which target automated test and machine motor control applications. Previously, the kit supported only Windows.

National Instruments now offers pre-built drivers for Linux that avail engineers of high-level functions “similar to those in the existing NI-Motion Windows driver,” the company says. “By using predeveloped drivers, engineers can save time and resources while integrating the advanced functionality of NI motion technology into their systems,” NI claims.
