New embedded graphics environment to debut at LinuxWorld
Aug 24, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 viewsCentury Embedded Technologies will unveil a new suite of graphical environments, tools, and applications targeting Linux-based PDAs, webpads, and thin client devices next week at LinuxWorld Expo & Conference in San Francisco. The new product family, called PIXIL, includes PIM (personal information management) and… multimedia apps, email client and Internet browser, handwriting recognition support, and utilities for device configuration and maintenance.
PIXIL builds on two popular Century-created open source projects, the Microwindows graphical windowing system and the ViewML Internet Browser.
“PIXIL is highly modular, making it practical for companies to license only the components they require in their particular projects,” according to Jon Beutler, Century's Director of New Business Development. “PIXIL should work with most Embedded Linux distributions, and can support a wide variety of hardware architectures and platforms,” he said.
A PIXIL Software Developers' Kit provides tools, libraries, source code, and documentation to enable developers to tune PIXIL to their specific requirements.
Century will demonstrate PIXIL in Red Hat's LinuxWorld booth.
