Thin client offers legacy ports
Jul 8, 2009 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 3 viewsDevon IT is shipping a Linux-ready thin client with legacy parallel and serial ports, aimed at the retail and financial industries. Based on a 1GHz Via C7 Eden, the TC4 supports RDP, ICA, and web-based applications, plus virtual desktop environments from companies including Citrix, VMware, and RedHat.
The TC4 is billed as a desktop replacement for customers, typically in retail or financial markets, who require legacy ports, says Devon IT. Specific targeted applications are said to include point-of-sale environments and bank branches.
Equipped with a 1GHz Via C7 Eden processor, the TC4 also deploys the Via CN700 chipset, and is supplied with 512MB of DDR2 memory, says the company. Local storage is supported with a 1GB DOM (disk on module), with expansion offered via PCMCIA and PCI slots, as well as four USB ports. Other I/O is said to include an Ethernet port, a parallel port, and dual serial and PS/2 ports. A wide variety of clients are supported, from Leostream to VMware (see list below).
