Hull, Quebec (Canada) — (press release excerpt) — OEone Corporation today announced that it is building its Operating Environment platform on Mozilla open source Internet client technology. By re-engineering the desktop using Mozilla technology, OEone offers increased functionality supporting all of the standard Internet applications.

OEone's distinctive Operating Environment is comprised of the Linux operating system, a Mozilla browser-based desktop, and a variety of components including productivity, entertainment, communications, and personal portal applications. This comprehensive Open Source software platform can power a wide variety of Internet devices including all-in-ones, Web pads, set-top boxes, and screen phones. OEone-enabled devices are designed for accessibility to first-time computer users and will be a welcome second or third computer in homes with existing PCs.

The platform was developed using the Open Source software model, in conjunction with a fixed hardware platform, to overcome the frustrating compatibility issues faced by today's desktop users. The OEone model, using the robust and scaleable Linux Operating System as its foundation and Mozilla as its customizable desktop, will provide software for Internet devices that operate efficiently, effectively and reliably. A comprehensive suite of personal productivity applications, personalized content and ASP services round out the offering, providing OEM customers with the opportunity to produce mass-appeal Internet devices.
