New RealTime Linux Install CD Includes RTLinux + RTAI
Dec 13, 1999 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsHerndon, VA — Zentropic Computing, LLC (Zentropix) today announced the availability of their latest RealTime Linux installation CD for Linux 2.2. This open source CD features a validated and tested installation of RealTime Linux, real-time Linux specific documentation, sample applications and test code, as well as Zentropix non-intrusive and step and trace debuggers for RealTime Linux.
Based upon Red Hat 6.0 and Linux kernel 2.2.10, this latest CD provides a one step installation for a complete real-time Linux operating environment based on either the RTAI version 0.7 made available under the LGPL by the Dipartimento di Ingegneria Aerospaziale Politecnico di Milano (DIAPM), or the New Mexico Tech RTLinux version 2.0 made available under the GPL from FSMLabs.
RealTime Linux provides guaranteed, hard real-time scheduling; yet retains all of the features and services of standard Linux. Additionally, it provides support for: Uni-Processor and Symmetric Multi Processor platforms, simultaneous one-shot and periodic schedulers, both inter-Linux and intra-Linux shared memory, FPU support, inter-task synchronization, semaphores, mutexes, RPCs and more.
Also included on the CD, are Zentropix debuggers specifically aimed at the real-time or kernel developer. The Remote Kernel Module debugger is based on the capable gdbstubs package, but also provides the host machine with the ability to step-and-trace the target's kernel modules by using the standard GDB debugger and a graphical interface such as DDD. The R2D2 debugger addresses later development stages when it is critical that the application is not “stopped” or “stepped” during debug. This debugger provides non-intrusive, run-time symbolic access to parameters within both user space and the kernel and its modules, while the parent task continues to execute at its normal iteration rate.
Full details regarding the installation and software offerings of the RealTime Linux Installatiion CD v2.2.1 can be found at Zentropix web site.
