An announcement from the open source OPIE project . . .

OPIE, the Open Palmtop Integrated Environment, will be present at this years CeBit fair for information technology in Hannover and will be showing a preview of its upcoming 1.0 release.

Being the first completely open sourced platform for PDAs and embedded devices running Linux, OPIE demonstrates its capabilities regarding data synchronization with KDE and Windows, the completely improved framework for personal information management (PIM) and the rich software equipment.

A very special highlight of OPIEs presence will be a special event in this years Linuxpark. On Sunday, March 16th, we will be demonstrating its suitability as a mobile business and multimedia platform as well as a universal graphical environment for embedded devices in a demonstration entitled “Linux and Multimedia/Linux on the enterprise desktop”. This demonstration will be supported by an audiovisual presentation at 1:15 pm. Visitors interested will find the OPIE team at the “cooperation booth” of Sharp Electronics Europe, in hall 1, booth 7A2 during the entire CEBIT fair.

Being a fork of TrollTechs Qtopia the Open Palmtop Integrated Environment (OPIE) represents the most advanced open platform for mobile devices under Linux. The core development aims at making available a universal graphical framework for most (embedded) distributions and providing of a basic platform even for professional application.
