May 12, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsThe OSDL (Open Source Development Labs) has promoted board-member Takashi Kunai to “director of Japan.” Kunai led Unix and mainframe operating system development at Fujitsu for 30 years, and has been active in the Japan OSS Promotion Forum.
The OSS Promotion Forum has branches in Japan, China, and Korea, and comprises vendors, users, and academic institutions working to increase regional economic competitiveness through open source software development. Kunai led the Japan branch's Business Development Forum from 2004 to 2005.
NTT's data director, Shinichi Yamada, stated, “The OSDL and the OSS Promotion Forum deepen cooperation more and more,” according to a computer translation.
Kunai said, “I'm eager to align resources to take the Linux operating system deeper into servers and mobile devices and in customer IT departments.”
OSDL CEO Stuart Cohen added “As the Japanese government considers the expanded role Linux and open source software will play in its country, Kunai will work to facilitate cooperation between vendors, the government, and the open source community.”
