Partnership aims to improve PC-to-TV info appliances

Together, the TASTE embedded Linux system and the FS450 and FS460 ASICs will be used to power PC-to-TV information appliances, including advanced multimedia Internet set-top boxes, interactive home entertainment systems, and video kiosks.
“Video and text quality on a television is probably the most important enhancement critical to the growth of PC-to-TV information appliances,” said Bill Schillhammer, vice president of OEM sales, FOCUS Enhancements. “Every customer's first impression of a media appliance starts with the quality of the image . . . With the FOCUS and TUXIA partnership, we will provide an integrated solution in which the FS460 will provide the capability to perfectly size a desktop onto a TV while blending multiple video channels, and TASTE will provide a user-friendly interface that requires no advanced technical knowledge to install. As a result, this partnership will offer manufacturers and developers an information appliance solution at the leading edge of PC-to-TV convergence.”
