PMP chip gains Linux SDIO stack

Mar 22, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

EmbWise says its Linux SDIO stack now supports an AMD embedded processor that targets portable media players (PMPs). The SDIOWorx stack's SD/MMC drivers support the SDIO controller built into AMD's Alchemy AU1200, and its SDIO-WiFi and SDIO-Bluetooth (type A) drivers has also been validated under the AMD SoC, EmbWise says.

AMD's AU1200 is a RISC-based SoC (system-on-chip) with a MIPS core and low-level hardware acceleration for multiple media formats. It began sampling in January of last year, and has since surfaced in the Vassili, a Linux-based PMP reference design from FIC.

EmbWise calls SDIOWorx the first product to offer “comprehensive support” for the AU1200's SD/MMC subsystem. It supports SD/MMC/MMCMobile and MMCPlus memory cards, SDIO-Bluetooth, SDIO-WiFi, and a generic SD-UART. The product comes with SD/MMC drivers and SDIO-bluetooth drivers with source code, as well as binary-only SDIO-WiFi drivers developed in partnership with WLAN chipset vendors, the company says.

Chennai, India-based EmbWise shipped SDIOWorx about a year ago, and has previously touted support for MontaVista consumer electronics and Mobilinux editions, along with chips such as Intel's PXA270 (Bulverde) and Samsung's S3C2410, both of which integrate SDIO controllers. SDIOWorx additionally supports standards-based standalone controllers from Arasan Chip Systems and Tokyo Electron Devices, EmbWise says, as well as the ThreadX and uITron RTOSes.
