PT joins OSDL CGL WG
Oct 11, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsPerformance Technologies (PT) has joined the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), with plans to contribute to the OSDL's Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) working group. PT sells board- and chassis-level hardware for communications infrastructure, including packet-based wireless, IMS (integrated multimedia subsystems), IP telephony, and defense and homeland security systems.
PT's hardware products are supported by its NexusWare software suite, which comprises Linux implementations, development tools, and management tools.
The OSDL formed the CGL working group in January of 2002, with the vision that open, standard telecom platforms would be based on a Linux kernel with carrier-grade characteristics. The CGL working group has since published three CGL specifications, and now comprises 25 contributing companies.
PT senior VP of systems engineering John Grana stated, “Linux-based solutions like our NexusWare Core development environment have helped reduce time-to-market and operating costs.”
Bill Weinberg, senior technology analyst for the OSDL, stated, “Major telecom equipment manufacturers continue to see the benefits of adopting Linux to reduce costs and enable a higher level of flexibility.”
