McObject has announced the impending release of eXtremeSQL, a high-performance implementation of the popular SQL database programming language for use with eXtremeDB, which is an in-memory database for intelligent Linux devices. According to the company, eXtremeSQL serves the real-time enterprise Linux software market by greatly simplifying database programming.

The eXtremeSQL interface provides “a vital tool,” according to McObject, for eXtremeDB-based devices to share data with external applications such as billing, shipping, customer relationship management, and enterprise databases. The new interface is aimed at application development in such fields as banking and securities trading, where high performance and real-time responsiveness are a must and SQL is the dominant database language.

Among the eXtremeDB database's claims to fame are high performance, minimal footprint, and sophisticated features such as concurrent data access and flexible indexing. By eliminating disk I/O, eXtremeDB enables data management at near RAM-access speed, according to the company.
