Reference design supports HomePlug enabled CableHome compliant gateways
Nov 25, 2002 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsNewport Beach and San Jose, CA — (press release excerpt) — Conexant Systems Inc. and Jungo Software Technologies Inc. anounced a reference design for HomePlug-enabled CableHome-based residential and small office/home office (SOHO) standalone gateways. The design will allow multi-service operators (MSOs) to deliver home networking services over existing electrical wiring to current cable modem… customers, without requiring end-users to replace their existing cable modem equipment.
The complete reference design is based on Conexant's CX82100 home network processor, Conexant's CX11656 HomePlug 1.0 physical layer device (PHY) and Jungo's Linux-based OpenRG software suite. The production-ready reference design supports a variety of LAN interfaces including Ethernet, USB, and HomePlug. In addition, its open-design architecture allows equipment makers to customize their products by adding additional features.
The CableHome project is establishing specifications for extending high-quality cable-based services to network devices within the home.
