RTLinux training at COTScon West

Leesburg, VA and Socorro, NM — (press release excerpt) — A 3-day “hands-on” training class is planned for San Diego, December 11-13, 2002. Combine your visit to the Military & Aerospace Electronics West show with some “hands on” RTLinux training.

The class will introduce the new FSMLabs RTLinux/Pro 1.2 release and will cover both highly embedded systems and large scale control systems such as the United Technologies RTLinux based simulator/test-system for Joint Strike Fighter Engines.

This popular class was first presented in Orlando, FL in Sept 2002 and features a fast paced, in depth introduction to running real-time applications with RTLinux. Attendees learn how to install, configure and test RTLinux. The basics of Hard Real Time programming are covered and the interface between Linux and Real Time Linux operation is explained. The POSIX API is covered in a manner that drastically reduces any initial learning curve.

By the end of the class attendees will have developed a RTLinux application with a graphical interface and a hardware module attached to the parallel port.

This class is designed to be of use to programmers and system designers with or without prior Linux experience. Many of the typical problems encountered by first time users will be eliminated. Attendees will leave the class with a good understanding of the RTLinux API and how it relates to normal non real time Linux.

Topics include . . .

  • Basic RTLinux technology: decoupling timing critical components for reliability and performance.
  • RTLinux VME and Multiprocessor support.
  • RTLinux Process Space threads and slot scheduler.
  • Embedding RTLinux: headless systems, flash, memory footprint.
  • Controls Kit for building operator interfaces.

Fees for this class is $1495 per person and includes: hard copy of the lecture notes; course CD with slides and examples; 25% discount voucher for an RTLinux source RDK.

Phil Wilshire, an early adopter of RTLinux and a full-time, experienced, professional Linux trainer with over 25 years of experience in real-time systems design will present the class for FSMLabs Inc.
