Octagon Systems has launched a family of embedded operating system board support package (BSP) kits for its ruggedized, single-board computers (SBCs). Operating systems currently supported with the OS Embedder kits include Linux, Windows CE .NET, Windows XP Embedded, QNX, and DOS. The kits are available for a variety of the company's EBX and PC/104 form-factor SBCs, with processors ranging from 133MHz 586 to 933MHz Intel Mobile P-IIIs.

Octagon claims the new kits reduce the hassle of installing operating systems on embedded products. Octagon develops and tests all drivers, and includes all cables, memory, custom drivers, application examples, and the target hardware platform. Octagon provides free, unlimited technical support on both hardware and software, it says.

The Linux OS Embedder kit includes an optimized 2.4 Linux kernel pre-installed on a CompactFlash card. The basic OS Embedder kit (including SBC) starts at $995 for single quantities. Delivery is from stock. Flat panel options are available for some kits.

Octagon Systems claims to be the largest manufacturer of embedded PC computers for -40 to +85 degree Celsius temperature range applications.
