Rugged ETX module taps Pineview Atoms

Adlink announced an ETX COM (computer on module) equipped with an Intel Atom N450 or dual-core Atom D510, both clocked at 1.66GHz. The ETX-PVR offers up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, a 4GB solid state drive, dual SATA ports, extended temperature support, and ETX-compliant I/O for Ethernet, USB 2.0, and serial connectivity, says the company.

The 4.59 x 3.74-inch (114 x 95mm) ETX-PVR follows up on earlier ETX form-factor modules like the Intel Atom N270-based ETX-AT. Adlink did not say what version of the Kontron-developed ETX standard — now considered a legacy format that has been overshadowed by spinoffs such as COM Express — is employed, but the ETX-AT supported the ETX 3.0 standard adopted in 2006.

The ETX-PVR supports the Intel Atom N450 and dual-core D510, both clocked at 1.66GHz. These "Pineview" Intel Atoms bring memory and graphics controllers on-chip for space and power savings.

The ETX-PVR supports up to 2GB of single channel DDR2 667MHz, says Adlink. A 4GB soldered solid state drive (SSD) is also available, as are an IDE interface and dual SATA 2 interfaces, says the company.

The module offers single-channel LVDS output at 1280 x 800 resolution, as well as a VGA interface that supports up to 1400 x 1050 pixels. I/O expressed over the ETX interface includes 10/100 Ethernet, four USB 2.0 ports, two RS-232 ports, and the aforementioned IDE channel.

The ETX-PVR stays true to its legacy focus with a PCI expansion interface and an LPT floppy interface. Other features are said to include a PS/2 interface and HD audio.

Designed for rugged applications, the ETX-PVR uses a 50 percent thicker PCB for sustained shock and vibration resistance, says Adlink. The module comes in an extended temperature version that supports -40 to 185 deg. F temperatures, says the company.

Adlink also sells ETX-PVR QuickStart Kits that include the module, an ETX-Proto baseboard, cables, power supply, thermal solution, and 2GB DDR2 memory, says the company. Also available are device drivers and board support packages (BSPs) for operating systems including Linux, Windows CE, Windows XP Embedded, QNX, and VxWorks.

Stated Brian Healy, Adlink's product management manager, "The ETX-PVR is an ideal upgrade for the huge number of existing ETX applications worldwide."
