Orlando, FL — (press release excerpt) — SavaJe Technologies today announced its entry into the smartphone market with two unnamed Asian and European customers. SavaJe Technologies claims that its SavaJe OS Smartphone Edition is the world's first operating system to support the complete set of Java APIs — from MIDP to J2SE — on handheld and wireless devices. [The SavaJe OS runs directly on smartphone hardware, without requiring an additional platform OS.]

The SavaJe operating system, designed from the ground up to run Java on small devices, incorporates all necessary elements to build the ultimate client smartphone, and features a graphical user interface designed for smartphones, full Java security, a universal messaging system, full browser, PIM, and support for advanced rich media formats, including MP3 and MPEG4.

SavaJe OS Smartphone Edition gives network operators a Java platform on which they can immediately deploy rich Java-based applications and services, and the extensibility to support future premium applications and services. A number of manufacturers have already evaluated SavaJe OS and two are currently building next-generation handsets scheduled for shipment in Q4 2002.
