Vision Objects is shipping a mobile and embedded device version of its handwriting recognition SDK (software development kit). MyScript Builder Embedded 1.2 supports a wide range of European, American, and Asian languages, and targets PDAs, Internet tablets, and smartphones running Linux, Symbian, or… Windows CE.

Vision Objects says its MyScript Builder SDK can be used to create input methods that allow users to write naturally, whether writing email, sending text messages, or taking notes. It supports cursive and print handwriting modes, as well “isolated mode,” in which characters are separated by vertical lines.

The Kit supports simple, easily learned gestures for erasing characters, adding spaces, and inserting paragraph breaks, Vision Objects says. Another touted feature is the capability to integrate “bi-class language models,” which calculate the probability of pairs of words occurring together.

Vision Objects says handset marketshare leader Nokia uses its MyScript Builder Embedded in the Digital Pen Suite that ships with S60-series phones and Series 80 communicators.

Availability

MyScript Builder Embedded 1.2 is available now for Linux, Windows CE, and Symbian. Language packs are available for Danish, English (UK), Finnish, German, Norwegian, Spanish, Dutch, English (US), French, Italian, Portuguese, Swedish, Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
