Security takes center stage at annual GHS conference
Dec 13, 2006 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSecurity took center stage at the fourth annual technology conference of embedded software vendor Green Hills Software (GHS), reports VDC, which attended the event last week in Santa Barbara, Calif. VDC lauds GHS for pursuing security goals alongside more market-driven goals such as development cost, time-to-market, and new feature development.
VDC, a leading embedded market analyst firm, points out that security represents “one of the more critical challenges faced by device manufacturers over the long term.” The analyst firm believes that some vendors in the embedded operating system and tools market allow security to take a back seat to more market-driven features. Meanwhile, security continuously threatens to become the biggest market driver of all, given a single large-scale security breach, government mandate, or even just an increase in the number of attempted attacks, VDC notes.
GHS technology announcements at the event reportedly included:
- Platform for Secure Networking, a stack for consumer electronics as well as network infrastructure, featuring MILS (multiple independent levels of security), guaranteed resource allocation, application partitioning, and access control
- Version 5 of GHS's MULTI toolsuite
- 10th anniversary release of Integrity, which Green Hills expects to be the first operating system evaluated to EAL 6+, in early 2007
- A new ultra-small footprint operating system called uVelOScity
- A new Enhanced Platform for Automotive Systems
