• Connecting a JTAG debugger to your 970FX board — Encounter one “undocumented corner” of the PowerPC and enhance your knowledge of your Momentum PowerPC 970FX Evaluation Board (the so-called Maple-D). Learn how to properly connect your JTAG debugger to the system.
• More Than One Way To Boot It — developerWorks has released updates to two downloads: Version 1.05 of the 970FX Evaluation Kit, also known as PIBS (PowerPC Initialization Boot Software); see the change log and/or register to download here. As well, Part 2 of the SLOF download has been released: JS20 low-level firmware provides the base functionality to run Slimline Open Firmware (SLOF) on a JS20 server.
• Linux virtualization on POWER5: A hands-on setup guide — Learn how to use the virtualization functions available for Linux on IBM POWER5 processor-based servers.
• Use J2SE 5.0 Features on Older JVMs — Can't move to JDK 5.0? Many of the J2SE 5.0 language features would be just as useful for older JVMs, but the compiler that implements these features generates code that requires JDK 5.0 or later. Fortunately, there's an open source project that bridges the gap between J2SE 5.0 and older JVMs — Retroweaver.
• First look at AspectJ 5 and associated Java tools — A major focus of AspectJ 5 is on providing support for the new Java language features introduced in Java 5, including annotations and generics. AspectJ 5 also contains new features not tied to Java 5, such as an annotation-based development style, improved load-time weaving, and a new aspect instantiation model. • Three-part series on the basics of programming in PHP — This tutorial is Part 3 of a three-part series designed to teach you the basics of programming in PHP. It touches on HTTP authentication, streaming, classes and objects, and exception handling, as well as provides another look at manipulating XML. Part 2 takes you from the most basic PHP script to working with databases and streaming from the file system by documenting the building of a document workflow system. You can start with Learning PHP, Part 1, which gives you the basics of building a PHP script, including syntax, HTML forms, and database connections.
