Sharp USA has announced today that the “SL-5000D” (the developer versions of their upcoming StrongARM-based PDAs running Linux and Java) are shipping. They're taking orders from their USA website.

The following is an excerpt from an email blast sent today by Sharp to developers interested in the SL-5000D . . .

As we have received numerous requests for the Sharp Linux/Java based PDA, we have decided to extend the special JavaOne promotional price of $399 to all developers. Our purchasing store is now open and is taking orders. All orders will be processed and shipped out now!! Please go to developer.sharpsec.com and sign in as usual. This will bring you to the Welcome Developers page and you can click on “US Customers – Order the Sharp SL-5000D Now”. This will link you to the purchasing site.

Also, we are looking for a few good applications to display, demonstrate and promote at Winter CES 2002 (January 8-11, 2002). If you are interested in participating and your applications are ready, we will take your requests by email. Spots are limited, and we are judging applications on a first come first serve basis. So, don't delay, as this is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your applications at Sharp's booth at CES. We will be posting information about upcoming developer contests next month.
