Userful has revised its Linux-based managed kiosk software aimed at enabling a single PC to support multiple touchscreen-based interfaces. DiscoverStation 4.0 supports up to 10 concurrent users, and targets ticketing, voting, HR, surveys, and Internet access kiosks, according to the company.

The DiscoverStation 4.0 software runs on standard PCs equipped with multiple video cards, and running a Linux operating system. It supports USB touchscreens from 3M and Elo, and can run applications written in AJAX, Java, Flash, .NET, and C#, Userful says.

Additionally, the company says it has added touchscreen support to its Linux-based Desktop Multiplier and Desktop Server products.

Userful President Tom Griffin stated, “By enabling kiosks to be deployed [at less cost], kiosks [are] now feasible where they were formerly out of reach.

Availability

DiscoverStation 4.0 is available now, direct from Userful and from its distribution channel. The company also offers kiosks as a “manged service,” it says, including hardware, software, and support, priced at about $100 per kiosk per month.
