TeamASA will begin sampling a single-board computer (SBC) powered by a dual-core Intel XScale processor next month. The storage-oriented NPWR-XTR comes with Linux and is available with an Intel 81348 XScale processor clocked up to 1.2GHz, and support for up to 12 SATA ports.

The NPWR-XTR has a compact form-factor aimed at devices that fit within 5.25-inch drive bays. Typical applications are expected to include NAS, iSCSI, and RAID controllers, personal Linux servers, firewalls and routers, and Internet servers.

Like TeamASA's other NPWR boards, the NPWR-XTR comes with the company's “NPWR Linux” distribution. However, the XTR offers higher performance than previous NPWR boards, the company said.

The NPWR-XTR board will support 8134x dual-core XScale CPUs clocked at 667 MHz, 800 MHz, or 1.2 GHz, and accommodate up to 2GB of SDRAM via a single SODIMM socket. I/O will include dual gigabit Ethernet ports and eight SATA ports or four SATA/SAS ports, depending on board model.

Mark Murray, CTO, stated, “The Dual Core CPU on the NPWR-XTRM will enable some applications to achieve a 400 percent increase over previous NPWR offerings.”

Availability

The NPWR-XTR board will sample in May, and reach production quantities in July, the company said. It is priced at $800 in quantities of 100, with a 1.2GHz Intel XScale CPU, 4 SATA ports, and 512MB of RAM.
