PICMG board offers dual-core 1.8GHz Atom

Apr 13, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Axiomtek announced a fanless, half-size PICMG 1.3 single board computer (SBC), available with a choice of single or dual-core Atom processors. The SHB212 offers up to 4GB DDR3 memory, as well as PCIe expansion, SATA and CompactFlash storage, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, and six USB 2.0 ports, says the company.

The half-length SHB212 is suited for DVRs, digital security surveillance devices, gaming machines, visual inspection instruments, video servers, and other space-constrained embedded devices, says Axiomtek. Like earlier SHB boards from Axiomtek — including most recently, its Intel Xeon- and Core-ready, full-length SHB105 — the SHB212 supports the PICMG 1.3 form-factor as well as the SHB (Sundance High speed Bus) standard. (Other Axiomtek SHB boards include the 2008-issue SHB102 SBC and last year's SHB111.)

The SHB212 can be fitted with the single-core Intel Atom D425 or dual-core D525, each of which are clocked to 1.8GHz, or else the Atom N455 clocked to 1.66GHz. Equipped with up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, clocked at either 667MHz (N455) or 800MHz, the SBC offers a CompactFlash slot and dual SATA ports for storage, says Axiomtek.

PCI Express expansion is available via four PCIe x1 channels or a single PCIe x4 channel routed to the backplane, says the company. The SHB212 is said to offer dual-display support via a VGA port and an internal 18-bit, single channel LVDS interface.

Equipped with dual gigabit Ethernet ports, the SBC also provides two rear I/O USB 2.0 ports and four more internal, for six ports total. Additional interfaces are said to include both an RS-232/422/485 and RS/232 port, as well as PS/2 connectivity.
