SSV Embedded Systems announced that they have turned their recently introduced DIL/NetPC PNP/1110 into a Linux-based open platform for high performance embedded graphical user interface (GUI) applications. Starting from today the PNP/1110 is available with pre-installed GUI driven by a Linux-based X11 server (X-Server). Color TFT-LCDs with 8- or 16-bit Interface and QVGA (320×240 resulotion), VGA (640×480), or SVGA (800×600) resolution are directly connectable to the PNP/1110.

With FLTK, a powerful graphic library for the development of custom Linux C++ based applications is also available. FLTK offers a large collection of widgets, which makes the organization of embedded user interfaces very easy.

On a footprint of just 45×45 mm, the PNP/1110 offers a complete 32-bit computer system with LCD support facility for active and passive LCD panels with up to 800×600 pixel (SVGA) resolution. The PNP/1110 is based on a 32-bit Intel StrongARM SA-1110 RISC system-on-chip processor with a clock speed of up to 206 MHz. The module includes 64M SDRAM, 16MB Flash, and an optional 10/100-Mbps Ethernet controller.

Mechanically the PNP/1110 has the format of a 169-pin PGA-Socket. Available interfaces include a 32-bit bus, two serial interfaces (16550-compatible), a universal parallel port, and a combined PCMCIA/CompactFlash interface. Through its small power consumption, the PNP/1110 is also suitable for mobile embedded Linux applications.
