Fanless barebone server offers dual-core Atom for $260
Dec 3, 2010 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 9 viewsHabey announced a 1U, barebone server featuring Intel's dual-core 1.8GHz Atom D525 processor, starting at $260. Able to run on 25 Watts, the EPC-6566 offers up to 2GB of DDR3 RAM, PCI Express and PCI expansion, dual HDD bays, two gigabit Ethernet ports, plus serial and USB connectivity, says the company.
The 17 x 9.8 x 1.75-inch EPC-6566 is now available in single quantities at Amazon.com, starting at $260. As a barebone system, it ships without storage, memory, or a pre-installed operating system, but it supports Linux and several Windows versions, says Habey.

EPC-6566 port detail
The EPC-6566 can be considered a rackmountable, embedded server alternative to the recently announced, consumer multimedia oriented EPC-6568 PC. Like the EPC-6568, the EPC-6566 is built around a Habey mini-ITX mainboard, in this case the MITX-6566.
Whereas the EPC-6568 runs on a dual-core Intel Atom D510 processor and an Nvidia Ion 2 GPU, the new EPC-6566 is based on the newer, dual-core Intel Atom D525, but depends on integrated graphics instead of an Ion. The Atom DM525 uses the same Pineview architecture as the D510, but is clocked at 1.8GHz, and is paired as usual with an Intel NM10 controller chipset.

For expansion, dual Mini-PCI Express (PCIe) slots are available, as well as a PCI slot, says the company. The system also offers dual gigabit Ethernet ports and six USB 2.0 ports, including two front-facing ports.
