Summer Webinars look at embedded Linux security, graphical tools

Jun 15, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Free Webinars will be offered separately by Wind River; by TimeSys; and by Mocana and its partners MontaVista and Wind River this summer. The events explore getting started with embedded Linux development, graphical embedded Linux development tools, and embedded device security, respectively.

Mocana/MontaVista, Mocana/Wind River

These events will address “challenges, technologies, and solutions” for securing network-enabled Linux devices, including best practices for device security. They will examine network security at several levels, and cover solutions such as SSL/TLS, SSH, and IPSec. Speakers will include Mocana CTO James Blaisdell, and representatives of Mocana partners MontaVista and Wind River (in two separate Webinars).

Mocana last week launched a suite of SSL and SSH products designed for use in embedded devices. However, the events promise to provide general information about device security not limited to the Mocana tools.

The online Mocana/MontaVista event is scheduled for Thursday, June 17, from 11-12 AM EDT (8-9 AM PDT). The Mocana/Wind River event will take place this fall. Attendees can register here for the MontaVista event or here for the Wind River event, or for either by calling (303) 928-9999.

Both events will be archived on the Mocana site.

TimeSys

The TimeSys summer Webinar series will focus on orienting embedded Linux developers to the use of Eclipse-based graphical development, debugging, and testing tools, with a primary focus on TimeSys's TimeStorm IDE. Each of the events will be accompanied by a whitepaper from veteran author Bill von Hagen. Previously, TimeSys offered a series of Webinars and von Hagen whitepapers on migrating embedded Linux devices to 2.6-series Linux kernels.

Wind River Webinar

Separately, Wind River has announced a Webinar based on the seminar series it began in May. The hour-and-a-half event features an independent embedded development contractor presenting material geared toward development engineers and project managers using Linux for the first time, or having poor experiences with existing efforts.
