Dec 10, 1999 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsRonny Ko, in an article at 32BitsOnline.com, writes . . .
“Sun Microsystems today apologized to the Blackdown Open Source community that ported the Java SDK to Linux. 'Our stance is an apologetic one,' said Rick Schultz, Java 2 standard edition product manager at Sun.”
“Sun and Inprise took the work of the Blackdown community without giving the community credit for their work. 'I have resigned from the Java-Linux porting effort', said Kevin B. Hendricks through an e-mail to Linux Weekly News.”
“This comes at a time when many companies are benefiting from the work of thousands of Open Source programmers all over the world with valuation exceeding $5 billion while Open Source programmers only receive a small portion of that valuation if any.”
