Oct 18, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

(press release) — SuSE Linux 7.0 passed 233 of the 243 tests in the Linux Standards Board's Filesystem Hierarchy Standard (LSB-FHS2.1-1) test. SuSE's Distribution surpassed Red Hat in compliance by 10 tests, Caldera by 29, Mandrake by 33, and TurboLinux by 14, making SuSE Linux 7.0 the most standards-compliant Linux distribution tested.

The LSB-FHS test suite is a test program that can be run on any Linux distribution. The goal is to test whether the distribution follows the FHS (Filesystem Hierarchy Standard), which defines where certain system files have to be located and if special system files exist.

The FHS is a part of LSB (Linux Standard Base), a joint effort to create a standard between the various Linux distributions. SuSE is an active member and supporter of the LSB. Detailed results of the tests are available online, here.
