German embedded Linux provider Sysgo has appointed a new CEO as an initial step toward implementing an “aggressive global business expansion plan.” Michael Tiedemann is an electronics engineer who served as Sysgo's sales manager for a decade.

In a statement, Tiedemann characterized Sysgo's recent expansion into East Asia and the U.S. as “very successful,” adding, “It is now the right time to push this success to the next level.”

Sysgo co-founder and former CEO Knut Degen will remain a “major and active shareholder of the company,” the company said. Degen commented, “Michael has excellent market and technology knowledge together with the business sense required to steer Sysgo in the challenging but opportunity-rich embedded/real-time world. We have seen his management capacity and business development skills grow tremendously over recent years, and so the time has come to empower Michael's ambition, passion, and knowledge.”

Tiedemann joined Sysgo as sales manager in 1997, and has played a strategic role in the company's recent growth, Sysgo said. Tiedemann graduated with a computer engineering degree from the University of Applied Science in Ulm.

Tiedemann stated, “Sysgo has technology designed from the start to satisfy new market requirements like virtualization, high security, and multi-core support. The people at Sysgo provide best-of-breed professional services. Having built the foundation of our success in the European embedded market, notably in the military and aerospace sector, we will now drive our regional and vertical expansion process even faster.”

Sysgo's ELinOS and ELinOS Real-time Linux distributions target embedded, industrial, and military/aerospace applications. They feature a graphical “ELK” (embedded Linux Konfigurator) tool, graphical Eclipse-based “Codeo” IDE, and “Cognito” analysis tools. They are optionally available with PikeOS, a proprietary POSIX-compliant RTOS (real-time OS) capable of running Linux and other binaries in separate, secure, para-virtual hardware partitions.

Sysgo offers time-limited trial downloads of its embedded Linux products, as well as a free command-line only version. It also maintains a demo server aimed at saving potential customers the hassle of installing software and configuring target hardware.
