IGEL Technology has updated its embedded Linux thin client OS with new multimedia capabilities and security features. IGEL says its Embedded Flash Linux now supports the latest, more multimedia-capable version of the Citrix protocol, along with single sign-on Kerberos authentication.

The new IGEL embedded Linux OS supports version 8.2 of the Citrix ICA (independent computing architecture), said to offer “dynamic session resizing” that optimizes the transfer of image and video data based on available bandwidth. The new Citrix ICA also supports the tranfer of audio data from the client to the server, in order to support applications which accept voice input, IGEL says.

IGEL's new Linux based thin client firmware also includes Kerberos authentication capabilities, implemented as a “fixed component” of its Powerterm emulation suite, the company says. The Kerberos implementation is said to allow a single authentication during initial login, after which authentication to various applications is handled using hard-to-snoop encoded user information.

The new thin client OS is available now on IGEL's new products, and as a firmware upgrade for existing customers. IGEL's Linux based thin clients include its Netvista, TC, Elegance, Premium, Winestra, Compact, and Smart product lines. The company's CE line runs WinCE.
